The mining sector is considered an important part of the Jordanian national economy, and according to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the mining sector represents 9% of the Jordanian domestic product and 30% of total exports. Jordan has the fifth largest phosphate reserve in the world.
The Shidiya mine is considered the largest phosphate mine in Jordan and is located 50 km east of the city of Ma’an, with an area of 315 square km. It is the mine in which Hamad Al Qaisi Company operates.
